This week in the ARTery Gallery, we welcome artist Daisuke Okamoto for a very special exhibit ” Okaina Image”. Be sure to come by on November 4th for the opening reception from 7-10pm and meet the artist himself. Follow @arteryatthelab for gallery hours and updates.
Daisuke Okamoto’s drawing “OKAINA IMAGE” investigates the cycle of life in the complex, biomorphic, narratives of the organic. Influence by all that are sci-fi, Japanese nationalism and psychedelic culture; Okamoto’s drawings are intricate systems of penmanship.
Born in 1979, raised in Tokyo, Japan, and currently living and working in Los Angeles, Okamoto represents the idea of the hybrid in both identity and transformation.
Drawn with a passion for mark making, Okamoto employs repetitive line drawing in ink to work for as long as years on a single drawing.
Please join us for this power house line up of Los Angeles artists for a show centered around childhood lessons and experiences.
Scheduled to run: September 10, 2016 – October 1, 2016 Opening Reception: Saturday, September 10, 2016 * 6p-9p

The Coaster Show 2016:
It’s hard to believe this year is already the fourth annual installment of the La Luz de Jesus Coaster Show! What started as a last minute substitution has grown into a legitimate institution–one of the most anticipated events of the LA Art Scene.
We’ve all done it. We’ve sat at the bar, drinking a beer and doodled on a coaster.
But most of us aren’t the extremely skilled painters, illustrators, animators, tattooists, sculptors or collage artists that are featured in this exhibition that takes a love of craft brewing and elevates it to high art.
We produced a custom canvas for some of our favorite gallery folks to do what they do best, and transform a 4″ tondo coaster into museum worthy exhibition pieces.
In the past three years, we’ve dotted our walls with tiny masterpieces, and we’re expecting another 1000 or so pieces this time around!
Each coaster is a solitary work priced $250 or less.
Patron’s with a purchase history get the option to buy early–so contact the director for details. Single coaster sales will be open to the general public on opening night.

I wanted to depict this with Torii (a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the profane to the sacred) as the god after visiting Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kyoto, Japan. The Shrine was very beautiful and spiritual place. It inspires me a lot. Here I made this God. Mush Respect.
