Halloween is one of our favorite months of the year at The Hive, and this month we are celebrating with a tribute to Monster-Making Master Ray Harryhausen. Mr.Harryhausen, who passed away in May of 2013, was a pioneer of the art of Stop Motion Animation- “His most memorable works include the animation on Mighty Joe Young (1949), with his mentor Willis H. O’Brien, which won the Academy Award for special effects; The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), his first color film; and Jason and the Argonauts (1963), featuring a famous sword fight against seven skeleton warriors. His last film was Clash of the Titans (1981), after which he retired”. Hive artists have made amazing, one of a kind works in homage to what many of us consider one of the most inspirational artists in the movie business.

“As part of the Hive Gallery’s Ray Harryhausen event, STEPHEN HOLMAN, creator of the classic 90’s Nickelodeon stop-motion puppet animation shorts series, LIFE WITH LOOPY, will be exhibiting production photos,
design sketches and animation from the series’ 42 episodes. Holman’s unique style of mixing stop-mo animation and live action was influenced by a childhood spent watching Harryhausen’s movies.
Original puppets used in Life with Loopy will be exhibited on opening night.
An original painting of LOOPY, created by Holman especially for the Hive show, will be on sale, along with a limited edition, signed print series.”
